Longtime assistant takes over South Side football

SOUTH JACKSON, Tenn. – South Side High School named longtime assistant Brian Moore the new head football coach on Thursday. Moore says when the position opened in May, he wanted to make sure the new coach was the right fit. “I’ve been there for 10 years. This will be my fourth coaching change,” Moore said. “I’m all about what’s best for the school.” Moore takes over a senior class that has seen three different head coaches. He hopes to add consistency to the Hawks’ sidelines. “I don’t think it will be must of an adjustment for them [seniors],” Moore said about being new commander in chief. “It seems like every few years we’re changing systems and bringing new people in. Those schools that are winning those 8-9 games year, their coaching staffs stay the same.” Principal Anita Tucker thinks Moore is capable of doing the job. “The guys love Brian. He always put in the time and effort,” Tucker said. “Nothing new for him. We’re excited.” Moore’s first task is filling up his coaching staff. The Hawks are in need of two more coaches. “We’ve really got only three of us out there. We’ve got openings for two, but those have to align with teaching spots. Our teaching spots are special education and math,” Moore explained. “Math teachers are kind of rare to coach football.” Moore replaces Jason Driggers, who served as head coach for two years.
