JACKSON, Tenn. — Hundreds of people took a proactive approach Saturday toward limiting their chances of having their identity stolen. The event was a joint effort between the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance and the Jackson Anti-drug Coalition. Residents brought taxes, health records and bills as well as prescription pills for proper disposal. Organizers say an event like this limits your chances of becoming a victim. “It is good to be aware and cognitive to get rid of these items,” Megan Buell said. “Shred them, come to shred events, buy a shredder and shred those documents so you don’t run the risk of being a victim.” Organizers say most people dispose of prescription pills by flushing them down the drain but don’t realize by doing that it could cause extreme harm to the ecosystem.
