DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A man went before a judge Tuesday on accusations of assaulting a security officer at a Social Security office and then assaulting a policeman while being detained. Everette Johnson is accused of hitting a security officer Tuesday at the Social Security office on Cheyenne Drive after the workers were unable to help him, according to an affidavit. The officer was trying to help Johnson get a ride when he became belligerent, striking him in the chest and then in the face and head as the officer tried to grab his arm, the document states. Johnson then fled on foot. Soon afterward, police approached Johnson on West University Parkway where he allegedly pushed an officer’s face as police tried to detain him, according to the affidavit. Police say they then apprehended Johnson with a Taser to prevent escape or further fighting. Johnson is charged with simple assault on a police officer, simple assault, and resisting stop, frisk and arrest. His bond is set at $5,000.
