Rescue crews recover body of drowning victim at Norris Lake
NORRIS, Tenn. (AP) – The Union County Rescue Squad has recovered the body a man who drowned at Norris Lake.
Multiple media outlets report emergency crews responded to a call around 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Authorities say a 29-year-old man was riding on an inner tube pulled by a rented pontoon boat when he went under the water and never resurfaced.
The driver of the boat entered the water to look for the drowning victim before going to a nearby house to call authorities. Officials say the victim was likely not wearing a life jacket.
The victim’s identity has not been released.
Officials have urged boaters to exercise water safety precautions when on the water.
