19-year-old mother now faces murder charge in death of son
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Authorities say they have upgraded charges against a 19-year-old Memphis mother in the death of her 2-year-old son.
The Commercial Appeal reports (http://bit.ly/1MZf34j ) a murder charge was added Monday against Raven Campbell, who was already facing aggravated child abuse, aggravated child neglect and aggravated child endangerment charges in the death of her son, Jermyle Campbell.
Jermyle Campbell died Saturday after police say his mother placed him under a mattress as a form of discipline.
The newspaper reports juvenile court records show that family members sought to remove the child twice last year from his mother’s custody. Officials say both attempts failed.
Raven Campbell made her first appearance in court Monday, but the case was reset for next week to give her time to get an attorney. She is being held without bond.
