DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A man appeared Friday in city court on allegations of beating up a man who owed him money. Bobby Bruce Jr. is accused of assaulting a man May 4 behind a business on South Highland Avenue, according to court papers. The victim told police Bruce approached him to ask about the $40 he owed him. When he told Bruce he didn’t have the money, he says Bruce walked away but then returned with three other unidentified men. The victim says Bruce then punched him in the face, knocking him to the ground, according to an affidavit. He told officers Bruce and the other men then began kicking him in the face and ribs and stomped the back of his head and neck. Bruce is charged with simple assault. His bond is set at $1,000.
