JACKSON, Tenn. — Local churches gathered Thursday night to protest the violence against the church in Charleston, S.C. The protest started with prayer in the K-Mart parking lot off the Highway 45 Bypass. They marched down to the Carriage House Drive and bypass intersection and back, where they ended with prayer at the Old Hickory Boulevard and bypass intersection. A local Christian Methodist Episcopalian clergy member who helped organize the march said these are issues that affect all of us, even right here in Jackson. “There is an eerie silence here in Jackson, Tenn., concerning how there are so many issues we talk about behind closed doors,” the Rev. Allen Mitchell said. “The invisible race lines are here.”
