Police: Attempted seat belt stop leads to felony evading charge

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A man went before a judge Friday on accusations of fleeing from Jackson police when they tried to pull him over. Dontarrius Hurt faces a felony evading charge after police say he led them on a chase March 25 when they tried to stop his car for a seat belt violation, according to an affidavit. Police pursued the car on Deaderick Street as it ran a stop sign before finally coming to a stop on Lexington Street. Police say the front seat passenger then fled on foot before being apprehended. The driver, later identified as Hurt, then looked back at the approaching officer before speeding away, the affidavit states. Hurt is being held in lieu of a $30,000 bond.
