JACKSON, Tenn. — The outreach of a local nonprofit has been recognized by a national contest. A check for $25,000 was presented Friday to officials at the STAR Center. They placed 16th out of 40 organizations State Farm Insurance wanted to reward for their good work. In that contest, fans voted on Facebook for different charities. Officials with the center are grateful for the local support that made the gift possible. “This is a great day, an amazing day,” said Dave Bratcher, president of the STAR Center. “Any time that your work is validated by over 88,000 votes for the cause on Facebook in the last three weeks during the competition is just awesome.” The STAR Center of Jackson is a nonprofit designed to help residents of Jackson with disabilities rejoin the workforce. That money will go toward their “Arts and Autism” program.
