Officials: Home a total loss after early morning fire

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson Fire Department responded to a single-story house fire around 2 a.m. on Baker Drive. Officials said the home was 75 percent engulfed with flames shooting through the roof when they arrived. When WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News arrived, flames could be seen through a prominent window in the front of the house. The homeowner reported to fire officials he had been having trouble with his air conditioning unit and flipped a breaker in the garage before going to bed. He told responding officers he woke up to heavy smoke in the air. No injuries were reported. Officials said the home is a total loss, and the home next door sustained some exterior damage from the heat of the blaze. The fire is still under investigation.
