City of Newbern fires police chief

DYER COUNTY, Tenn. — The police chief of Newbern has been fired after being suspended twice this year on allegations of a hostile work environment. Doug Robertson was suspended in April and again June 10 after additional complaints. A formal hearing was scheduled for June 19 for Robertson to make his case before city officials, but he did not show up. The meeting was rescheduled for June 22, and Robertson again did not attend, according to city recorder Jason Roberts.
