TRENTON, Tenn. — Gov. Bill Haslam announced a grant amounting to half a million dollars Wednesday to revamp downtown infrastructure. Haslam along with Department of Transportation Commissioner John Schroer visited the town to announce the $570,025 transportation alternative grant. “This is one that helps preserve historical context of the city of Trenton but also makes it improve the quality of life here,” Haslam said. The grant will fund the third phase of the Downtown Historical Connection Project, according to a release from the governor’s office. The project is located along North College Street along the east and west sides of the court square and will include new curbs, driveways, sidewalks, handicap ramps and crosswalks, according to the release. Landscaping, decorative lighting, benches and trash receptacles also will be added.
