Murfreesboro motel loses roof in storm; guests displaced
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) – About three dozen people have been evacuated from a Murfreesboro motel after part of the building’s roof blew off during a storm.
Multiple media outlets report that the Imperial Inn near Broad Street had its roof nearly torn off entirely Tuesday night.
James Goodman of Tennessee’s American Red Cross chapter says about 35 to 40 people were evacuated and given shelter at New Vision Baptist Church.
Many of the motel’s guests were long-term residents.
Goodman says the organization typically provides shelter for residents until they can find a temporary place to stay.
Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department Capt. Jamie Bigelow says crews will investigate the damage but says wind was likely to blame for the incident.
