DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A man appeared Thursday in city court on accusations of assaulting a family member outside a Jackson hospital. A man told police Richard Johnson got upset with him about family issues and confronted him April 25 outside the main entrance of Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, according to court documents. An affidavit says the man tried to flee but that Johnson attacked him, punching him in the face until family could intervene. Johnson then allegedly threatened to kill the man after being pulled away from him, according to the affidavit. Johnson is charged with simple assault.
