Driver arrested after woman calls 911 to report kidnapping
THE DALLES, Ore. (AP) – Police say a kidnapped woman was rescued on an Eastern Oregon freeway.
According to the Oregon State Police, the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office got a 911 call Saturday morning from a woman who said she had been kidnapped and was trapped in a car traveling on Interstate 84.
Law enforcement stopped the vehicle east of Arlington and arrested the driver, 46-year-old William Cooter of Greeneville, Tennessee.
Police say the woman was kidnapped from a parking lot in Oregon, but have yet to release full details. They say Cooter and the woman didn’t know each other beforehand.
Cooter has been jailed on charges of kidnapping, rape, and other crimes.
Tennessee records show Cooter with prior convictions for kidnapping and aggravated assault. Police say he told investigators he wandered to Oregon and has no address.
