Escaped inmate evades officers in chase; U.S. Marshals offer reward

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — The search for an escaped inmate continues after he evaded authorities after a chase Tuesday night. Jackson police spotted Jason Kirk Tuesday night in the black Ford Mustang he had been said to be driving, according to the Jackson Police Department. Police say they chased Kirk in a high-speed pursuit onto I-40 traveling eastbound. Kirk then pulled into a rest area, abandoned the car and fled on foot into a wooded area, according to police. Jackson police, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals all collaborated in a search for Kirk, bringing in K-9 units and helicopters. Kirk was not found, and Marshals have since offered a cash reward for information leading to his arrest. Kirk is now said to have a short haircut and a braided ponytail, according to an updated description from U.S. Marshals. The new Mustang Kirk was driving had been stolen from Ford of Murfreesboro, and police say the dealership was unaware it had been stolen until they contacted them. Anyone with information is asked to call U.S. Marshals at 731-427-4661.
