Troopers share 4th of July weekend traffic predictions

JACKSON, Tenn. — State troopers say the traffic isn’t bad on Friday evening but expect it to get worse as the weekend progresses. “Probably traffic will lessen as the night progresses because like I said people are going to be getting where they want to go,” Trooper Jena Eubanks said. She says drivers could see more traffic earlier on Saturday rather than later. “I see more traffic probably from the morning to the mid afternoon, cause most people are trying to get to where they want to go for the holidays,” she said. Eubanks says most people in Jackson go out of town for the 4th of July weekend. “Traffic is a lot heavier during the holidays, which increases the chances of distracted drivers, crashes and all that stuff,” she said. Some local drivers say the traffic is a nuisance. “Well, it’s hectic and annoying rather than the normal days of the week,” Willis McClarin said. And some drivers are staying home this weekend to avoid the hassle. “I am not planning on getting out into all this traffic this holiday,” Betty Watford said. “I’m planning on laying back, keeping cool and trying to stay out of the traffic.” Eubanks says with the bad weather, her main concern is drivers’ safety. “We make sure there’s no one stranded out here in this weather,” she said. The THP’s goal is not to ruin anyone’s weekend but to help them get there safely. Eubanks says she expects to see heavy traffic on Sunday in the mid afternoon when people start to head home.
