Authorities: Bodies of 2 missing fishermen found in river

BECKER, Miss. (AP) – Authorities say the bodies of two missing fishermen have been found near where they launched their boat on the Tombigbee River.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal (http://bit.ly/1HRwBPx) reports that Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley says the bodies of 69-year-old Winford Holmes, of Bartlett, Tennessee, and 64-year-old Harold McCreight, of Pontotoc, were located Thursday.

Gurley says both men died as a result of drowning.

Authorities say crews from several agencies began searching the river Tuesday night after family members were unable to establish contact with the two men, who had launched that afternoon.

Authorities say the fishing boat that the two were in was discovered capsized two miles downstream hours after the search began.

Officials say recent torrential rain in the area had caused the river to swell, creating dangerous conditions.
