Woman accused of auto burglary, stealing license plate

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A woman appeared Friday in Jackson City Court on accusations of stealing property from a car and later being found with stolen items from a separate theft. Torkisha Clifton went before a judge on charges from three separate incidents. Clifton was arrested Tuesday after a woman told police Clifton had been inside her car while it was parked outside an East Chester Street convenience store, according to an affidavit. The woman followed her and called police, and officers found property taken from the car in Clifton’s possession, the document states. Court papers say police also found a license plate reported stolen Monday in a separate incident. Cilfton also was arraigned on a charge of stealing a woman’s car keys, valued at $197, on Tuesday at a Rhea Street residence, according to an affidavit. A woman told police Clifton took her keys and that she followed Clifton to a JTA transfer station where Clifton allegedly told her she had flushed the keys while in the restroom, the affidavit states. Clifton is charged with one count of burglary of a motor vehicle and two counts of theft of property under $500.
