Child, 5, drowns in Memphis apartment’s swimming pool

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – For the second time in seven days, a Memphis boy has drowned in a swimming pool.

Multiple media outlets report that a 5-year-old boy was found unresponsive on Sunday in the pool of a southeast Memphis apartment complex. The boy was taken to a hospital in extremely critical condition, but he was pronounced dead later that evening.

Witnesses tell WREG-TV (http://bit.ly/1Hq041n ) that the boy was with his older sister. Their mother showed up after a call for help.

The drowning follows a July 5 incident in which 13-year-old Cedric Walton and three other boys climbed a fence at L.E. Brown community pool. Walton jumped into the pool and drowned before his friends alerted paramedics.
