Popular Cumberland Gap attraction closed due to flooding
MIDDLESBORO, Ky. (AP) – A popular attraction at Cumberland Gap National Historic Park has closed due to flooding.
WKYT-TV (http://bit.ly/1OjIUFf ) reported Thursday that the historic Hensley Settlement has been closed for the rest of the season because officials say the road leading to the site has become too dangerous to travel on.
Park Ranger Carol Borneman says water falling off the mountains at a rapid pace has weakened the road in southeastern Kentucky. The park service says repairs could take several months to complete.
Featuring restored log cabins and other structures, the Hensley Settlement dates back to the early 20th century. It is a prominent attraction at the park, which is located in Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia.
