Haywood Co. Commission approves solid waste fee increases

HAYWOOD COUNTY, Tenn. — Customers soon will be paying higher sold waste fees after an increase was approved Monday by the Haywood County Commission. The fee changes are effective Oct. 1. The rate goes up $5 from $36.50 to $41.50 per ton for all materials that cross the scale, according to county officials. Residential rates will increase around 11 percent, going from $18 to $20. Businesses will pay an additional 20 percent, taking the fee from $50 to $60. Tax relief customers, which includes some elderly and lower-income citizens, will see an increase from $11 to $13. The landfill fees for Haywood County also will increase. Annually, the increase is expected to bring in $135,498, officials say. However, since the increase goes into effect Oct. 1, it will only apply for nine months during the 2015-2016 fiscal year, totaling $101,623 for the first year.
