JACKSON, Tenn. — Dog owners in West Tennessee have more than the heat to look out for when it comes to caring for their pets. Canine flu is starting to spread in the South in neighboring states including Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and now in Tennessee. Dog owners are asked to pay close attention, not just because of how strong the symptoms can be but how easy it is for dogs to infect each other. “It’s really contagious,” said Dr. David Harris, a local veterinarian. “The virus is easily spread from dog to dog, and it survives on surfaces for some period of time.”
