Local teacher chosen for national scholar program

JACKSON, Tenn. — A teacher with the Jackson-Madison County School System was selected for an exclusive national summer scholar program. Kimberly Dilden, who teaches at the Academic Academy at Northeast Middle School in Jackson, was chosen from a national applicant pool as a National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Scholar, according to a release from the school system. Dilden recently participated in a Summer Institute for Teachers titled “Teaching Connected Histories of the Mediterranean,” a three-week program held at the University of Denver in Colorado, the release states. “I was so excited to be selected for this institute, and I look forward to better integrating the connected histories of the Mediterranean region into our Humanities curriculum which is comprised of English and history,” Dilden states in the release. “At Northeast Middle School, we also have a strong commitment to Project Based Learning, which is a natural fit for the idea of teaching connections across the disciplines.” The endowment is a federal agency that supports enrichment opportunities each summer so teachers can study with experts in humanities disciplines, according to the release.
