GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. — Police faced a tense situation Wednesday afternoon in Humboldt after reports of gunfire led them to a nearby house after seeing a possible suspect run inside. “When our officers arrived on the scene, they saw three or four male subjects,” Humboldt Police Chief Robert Ellis said. “One of them left in a car. Another appeared to enter a house.” Police said at the time they received good information that someone involved in the shooting had barricaded himself inside. “No one would come out, so we wanted to play it safe,” Ellis said. “Our SWAT team in conjunction with the Milan SWAT team deployed tear gas.” It turned out no one was in the home, but those working at a nearby plant say the situation was scary. “What happened was two guys were outside and they heard two gunshots,” Stephanie Williams said. “Then they turned around and heard four, and when they heard that our plant manager immediately shut the plant down.” Police said the owner of the home that was gassed will have to relocate until the tear gas evaporates. Officers said they have determined there were shots fired but would not go into detail, saying the incident remains under investigation. However, as the investigation continues police are asking for the public’s help to put those responsible behind bars. “We would appreciate it. We are just trying to get to the bottom of what happened and what went on. We need to know what happened,” Chief Ellis said. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Humboldt police at 731-784-1322.
