SELMER, Tenn – McNairy Central’s football team is setting the bar high for their preseason goals. The Bobcats last winning season was in 2008. The school hasn’t been to the playoffs since then, let alone have over three wins. The team is ready to end that drought. “We want to win bad. We’re hungry,” said senior Tanner Kinkennon. “We’re going to have to beat the powerhouses in this region.” The Bobcats region features Dyersburg, JCM, South Side, Liberty Tech, Milan, South Gibson and Westview. Second year head coach Chad Hodge says defense is the key to a successful year. “Our goal is to score in the 30s because we believe our defense can keep us in most of our games,” Hodge said. “We got a lot of returners that know what they’re doing and built up a lot of confidence last year.” The Bobcats offense is young, but Hodge sees the work ethic improving every week. Not turning the ball over on offense is a key focus for the team. “Let’s take what we did at the end of last year and take it up another notch,” Hodge said. “Be competitive every single game and try to fight for a playoff spot.” The Bobcats season opener is on the road against Scotts Hill.
