City Council approves litigation tax increase

JACKSON, Tenn. — The City Council on Tuesday approved a $2.50 increase to the litigation tax. That moves the tax from $13.75 to $25 for any city court case where the defendant is found guilty or admits guilt. Money from the tax goes to Jackson’s Drug Treatment Court, something Jackson City Court Judge Blake Anderson said is much needed. “We keep growing and costs keep going up, but drug treatment courts work and we want to keep our courts working at a high quality, and to do that we needed the additional fund,” Anderson said.
