SOMERVILLE, Tenn. – Fayette Ware’s football team has a different bounce in their step. Can you blame them? The Wildcats ended their 65-game winning streak last season. The team’s victory against Middle College was the only win of the season. The community is expecting more from head coach Randy Griffith this year. “We have such a gap to close from being a successful program,” Griffith said. “We’re trying to keep the kids focused and take it one day at a time.” Getting the school’s first win since 2007 was a huge accomplishment, but the team will have a completely different look this season. “Our explosive passing game has gone away. We graduate most of our receiving core,” Griffith said. “You’ll see a lot more running from us. A lot more power, physicality, strength and wins.” The Wildcats will transition from a spread offense to wing-T. The new scheme is taking some time to adopt. “A lot of learning, but it will be best as we build a program for years to come,” Griffith said. “We did what had to do to try to get a win last year. We utilized athletes and they made athletic plays.” That style of play is gone. The coaching staff is building something for the future. “We’ll be much more deadly.”
