JACKSON, Tenn. — A recent shooting in midtown Jackson had those who live in the area calling for crime cameras, and police agreed. “The cameras in the city are another tool the police department uses not just to watch people, to be nosey, but it’s a tool we use to help keep people safe,” Sgt. Derick Tisdale said. Just one week ago, police said two men were shot at the Laparre apartment complex. With limited cooperation from the men and witnesses, police said a new police camera was installed for the public’s safety. “We take a look at a lot of different things, crimes and statistic, and then the decision is made,” Tisdale said. It’s a decision many residents say was necessary. “It is kinda, sorta an invasion of privacy, but at the same time there’s sort of a lot of bad things happening around here and in Jackson, period,” Winona Webb said. “I think overall the citizens of Jackson are appreciative we have the ability to see something occurring and beginning to take place and go from there,” Sgt. Tisdale said. Tisdale said this camera is just one of several cameras placed around the city, but he says one day the department hopes to take them all down. “We would love to see the day there are no cameras installed anymore or in any location because of the citizens, the people and the relationship between law enforcement has been truly effective,” Tisdale said.
