JACKSON, Tenn. — Firefighters will host a workshop this weekend focusing on fire safety for those who are deaf or hard of hearing. The Jackson Fire Department is partnering with the Jackson Area Center for Independent Living and the Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office to offer the free home fire safety workshop. It will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and the Jackson Center for Independent Living at 1981 Hollywood Drive. While the sound of a smoke alarm can save lives during an emergency, those who are hearing impaired may need to take extra steps to ensure safety during a fire, according to a release from the state. Free smoke alarms with flashing lights and bed shakers will be available to the first 150 households that pre-register for the event, the release states. Space is limited, so registration is required. Find the link to the online registration form in the Seen on 7 section of our website. For more information, call 731-668-2211, video phone 731-256-7026 or email information@jcil.tn.org.
