ALAMO, Tenn. – Week two of the high school football season feels a lot like Week one for Crockett County’s football program. The Cavaliers were one of five West Tennessee schools off the first week. Their season opener is against their former district rival. “I hope they’re not rusty. We haven’t done anything to get rusty,” head coach Kevin Ward said. “That’s the good thing about playing someone as good as Westview. It doesn’t really have to do anything with your playoff implications. It’s going to make us better playing someone like that.” First year quarterback Jeremiah Nance is ready to get the season started. The senior believes Westview is one step ahead of his team. “They’re going to better than us in tackling and we’re going to fatigue before they do,” Nance said. “Normally, you play better after your first game.” The Cavaliers looked good in Dyersburg’s Jamboree two weeks ago against McKenzie. Crockett won the scrimmage 28-7. “Played pretty well there, but having an off week and Westview having a week one game –– conditioning is going to be a factor,” Ward said. “Our kids are excited to be in game week mode and excited to play a quality opponent like Westview.” The Chargers and Cavaliers play on Friday at the University of Tennessee at Martin.
