PARIS, Tenn. — Workers at the new Hardee’s in Paris said they have been working but are not getting paid consistently due to paychecks bouncing. The paycheck problem has taken over social media after a weekend post by a concerned parent, Michael Williams Jr., who said his daughter’s last paycheck bounced. “Nobody works for free, and the employees expect to get paid when it’s time to get paid,” Williams said. “I was over here at McDonald’s Friday and she came by and she said she was hungry because she was broke because she didn’t have any money in the bank, and I asked her why and she said her checks bounced from Hardee’s.” After posting on social media, other parents and employees also posted and shared, saying they had similar experiences. “Her very first paycheck was insufficient funds and they bounced,” Joann Teague said. Her daughter has worked at the Hardee’s since the grand opening and has had two paychecks bounce. “I had the bank calling me on my job telling me I needed to bring the money to them because the check was no good.” “We came to Hardee’s. They issued us cash to take care of that one, but then last week when the other one bounced, we came back to Hardee’s thinking they would do the same thing. They said no. They had to wait for an email from corporate,” Teague said. Ashley Archie is a single parent and said she is now working a second job because she is afraid her Hardee’s check will bounce again. “I get off at one and then I go to my next job, and then I don’t get off until 11, and then I have to do it again all over the next day,” Archie said. “And I can’t quit my second job because I can’t count on my check.” The general manager said they are doing everything they can to resolve the issue. However, employees are nervous about their next paycheck. “When we get paid again, I have a feeling it’s going to bounce again, so it’s going to be a problem,” said Shamiah Williams, whose last paycheck bounced. When asked about why the checks were bouncing, Hardee’s on-site manager refused to comment, referring WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News to their owner, Jason Levecke, who lives in Arizona. The attorney said only that it is a banking issue and that they value their team members. Some employees said they have received their paychecks through a cash payout at the store. However, not all of the bank fees and checks have been paid. The company’s lawyer said that any employee impacted by the banking issue should bring their paycheck to the store where it will be addressed.
