Man sentenced on charge from recent prostitution sting

JACKSON, Tenn. — A man arrested in a recent prostitution sting in Jackson has been sentenced on a charge of attempted promotion of prostitution. Maurice Alexander was sentenced Thursday to serve 11 months and 29 days concurrent with the time already served in the Shelby County Jail, where he is being held. He first appeared July 13 in Jackson City Court. Alexander was accused of arranging to meet two women in Jackson he had met on the website backpage.com so he could drive them to Memphis and prostitute them. An affidavit said he was charging each of the women $700 to join his “team.” He was initially charged with human trafficking, but the charge was lowered to attempted promotion of prostitution.
