JACKSON, Tenn. — One of the oldest churches in Jackson held its first service Sunday morning in its renovated sanctuary. Church leaders said the sanctuary hasn’t been renovated in more than 50 years, and the congregation came together to help bring in some long-deserved improvements. Pastor William Watson said he hopes the new improvements don’t stay new for long, as he hopes they’re used for serving the community. “Our goal is really not to renovate for prestige or renovate for people in the sense of what people can come and see, but it’s to renovate to make a safe facility to draw others into a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ,” Watson said. Renovations include new carpet, pews, a new pulpit area along with general improvements to the sanctuary.
