JACKSON, Tenn. — Fifteen newly dedicates American flags fly in downtown Jackson. The Tulip Grove Chapter of the US Daughters of 1812 held a celebration of the flag and made the dedication along Liberty Street, Monday morning. “Our military go to war under this flag,” said Sherry Taylor, President of the Tulip Grove Chapter. “They come home to this flag and it shows us the strength and the resilience of this country.” Monday, September 17, 2015, marked the 201st anniversary of our national anthem, The Star Spangled Banner, which was penned by Francis Scott Key. Organizers said the day marked the perfect opportunity to dedicate the flags. “”It’s a sense of patriotism, said Taylor. “It’s a sense of citizenship, and it’s a national pride as it is our national symbol.” As part of the dedication program, proclamations were presented by the mayors of Jackson and Madison County.
