JACKSON, Tenn. — Some tenants at Hollywood Heights Apartments in west Jackson argue they’re being forced to live in unsafe and unsanitary conditions. For weeks, residents say they have been living without street lights, and now their dumpsters have been removed. “If it was up to me it would be tore down and rebuilt,” Tracie Sandlin said. Sandlin says the street lights around the entire complex have been dark at night for the last two weeks. “It’s like you don’t want to go nowhere at night. You can’t see if someone is at your door or where you’re going — you just can’t see,” Sandlin said. On Wednesday, residents said their last dumpster in the complex was hauled away. Many residents have already resorted to throwing their trash on the side of the street, which is causing hazardous conditions. It’s just another problem added to a long list that longtime resident Sandlin said has been growing for years. She said even finding where she can turn in her rent can be a problem. “Office lights are off, no water, no nothing,” Sandlin said. “They are working out of apartments.” We reached out to the out-of-state owner, Stewart Capitals, and the property manager but in each case we received messages saying the numbers were no longer working. “It’s going to be a hazard for us, and if they don’t pay their taxes it’s going to be unsafe until they get the trash cans back and the lights back on,” Sandlin said.
