MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. — The Jackson-Madison County School System provided some clarification Monday over the firing of Dr. June Murry as principal of Liberty Technology Magnet High School. In a specially called school board meeting Monday afternoon, Dr. Verna Ruffin said an investigation revealed two reasons for her decision. “Number one, there were non-certified teachers that were teaching classes which state and federal laws require the use of certified and highly qualified teachers, and number two, scheduling was improperly prepared and credit recovery was improperly used,” Ruffin said. Dr. Murry was fired last month. Ruffin said while she felt making a change in the middle of the school year could shake the school, she still believes it was the best move for the students at Liberty.
