CROCKETT COUNTY, Tenn. — Members of the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department are stunned with the tragic news that one of their former deputies were killed in a car accident late Monday night in Madison County. Prior to Deputy Rosemary Vela’s employment at the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, she called Crockett County her home. Crockett County Sheriff Troy Klyce is having a hard time coping with her death. “Everybody here thought the world of her,” Klyce said. “She just really challenged herself constantly to get better and do better — physically, mentally and everything. She worked really hard.” Many Crockett County residents also are shocked with Vela’s untimely death. Rosemary Hodges knew her personally and said she was a great person. “She was a super nice lady. I really liked her. I met her once when she came to my home,” Hodges said. Other residents voiced their concerns about the 5-year-old son she leaves behind. “It’s a tragic accident you know, but she was a real nice person,” said Crockett County resident. Marvin Johnson. “She’s going to be missed a lot, and I kind of feel sorry for her little boy ’cause he’ll grow up with no mother now.” Investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the crash.
