LEXINGTON, Tenn. — The Lexington Police Department is searching for suspects in a string of thefts mainly involving high-end lawn equipment “We don’t believe these to be random acts,” Lexington Police Capt. Jeff Middleton said. “These victims are targeted specifically for the equipment that they do own, because these are more expensive pieces of lawn equipment.” Middleton said whoever’s responsible is doing their homework before committing these crimes in the early morning hours. “The perpetrators obviously know what they’re going after,” Middleton told WBBJ Wednesday. “They know where to find it and they’re not afraid to come onto your property while you’re asleep to take it.” One of the homeowners whose house was burglarized told reporters Wednesday the thieves went through a nearby field after breaking into his shed and taking thousands of dollars of property. Those who live nearby say it makes them uneasy that it happened so close to their doorstep. “It’s unsettling because you would normally think this is a very secure neighborhood,” Lexington resident Dallas McGee said. “They probably cased the place first, and they’ve got a lot of nerve.” “That’s very bold to come to somebody’s yard when they’re at home,” Lexington resident Tina Bruce said. “It kind of makes you think about putting stuff in a little safer place for a while until they catch who’s doing this.” For now, Lexington police say they’re reviewing surveillance video from local businesses to gather more information on the suspects. Authorities said they couldn’t yet give a value on the stolen items and say charges for whoever is caught in the burglaries will be based on that information. If you see anything suspicious, you’re asked to call Lexington police at 731-968-6666.
