Subway’s ‘Cookie for a Cause’ will benefit local cancer patients

JACKSON, Tenn. — As if anyone needed another excuse to buy dessert, during October local residents can say their craving served a good cause. Jackson area Subway restaurants are holding a “Cookie for a Cause” event throughout October, with a percentage of every cookie sale benefiting patients undergoing cancer treatment at the Kirkland Cancer Center, according to a Subway release. In a partnership with the Kirkland Cancer Center and The Foundation, Subway will be sponsoring a home for cancer patients needing assistance during their treatments, the release states. Subway House will become a part of West Tennessee Healthcare’s current Hospitality House Program, which provides lodging for patients and families with travel constraints that would negatively impact their health care, according to the release. “We hope that the Subway House is a place for comfort and recuperation for these patients during their treatments” Cheri Childress, a Subway franchisee whose family has been affected by cancer, states in the release. “The Subway brand is proud to be involved in this wonderful program and help our local community.” For those who want to skip the cookie, area Subway locations also will be collecting donations to assist patients of the Kirkland Cancer Center through the month of October, the release states.
