Man cited for animal cruelty after allegedly abandoning dog

UNION CITY, Tenn. — A man is cited for cruelty to animals on accusations of abandoning a dog inside an apartment with no electricity. Animal Control received a call Sept. 29 about a dog left in a duplex, according to a Union City police report. A witness told officers Antwon Cotton was told to be out of the residence by 5 p.m. on the 29th. When the witness arrived at the duplex at 6 p.m., the dog had been left inside in a kennel, according to the report. An officer took the dog to the Animal Control Facility. When officers located Cotton the next day, he said he had left the dog there, according to police. When the officer attempted to cite Cotton, he ran out of the office and said they could keep the dog, the report states. Officers met Cotton about an hour later and issued him a citation for cruelty to animals.
