JACKSON, Tenn. — All eyes are on school board members and the superintendent as they discuss questionable terminations and possible school closures beginning Monday night during a crucial two days for the Jackson-Madison County School System. “JCM matters. JCM should be a high school. It is a foundation here in Jackson, Tennessee. We need it to be rebuilt or renovated,” Stephanie Graham said. Concerned citizens voiced their suggestions before the board during Monday night’s school board meeting for what could be the final time. “Our focus, and we hope the board’s focus and the superintendent’s focus, is to unify the community instead of dividing the community,” James Johnson said. It is all in preparation for Tuesday night’s special Vision 2020 meeting, but on Monday tides quickly turned as the discussion shifted to an investigation leading to the dismissal of Dr. June Murry. “If these things are in fact true, then that would cause me to have great question around what was done and how it was handled,” school board member Bob Alvey said. Alvey raised concerns about the Liberty Tech principal who was replaced in August. This comes after recent findings of his own that Alvey said revealed contradictory statements made by teachers questioning the investigation. “I can just tell you what you just said about the teachers and naming the names of the teachers, that is absolutely false,” Superintendent Verna Ruffin said. The school board is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the University of Memphis Lambuth Campus in the Jack Morris Ballroom.
