JACKSON, Tenn. — This weekend, an event to help those who serve and protect across the state will take place at the Ballpark at Jackson. “Backing the Badge,” a benefit concert, will raise money for the Tennessee Public Safety Network, founded to respond to the stress and trauma of law enforcement. One of the organizers, Michelle Mehr with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, recently returned from Chattanooga where she helped with efforts following the recruitment center shooting. “What we’re trying to do is show support for law enforcement officers by having a good turnout Saturday night to let the people in the nation know that the South is strongly supporting law enforcement officers and backing the badge,” said Tom Mapes, public information officer for the Madison County Sheriff’s Department. Gates open at 4 p.m., and the concert starts at 5 p.m.
