JACKSON, Tenn. — In the Hub City and across the state, troopers now have an easier way to communicate with one another. The highway patrol has upgraded to a new Motorola system used across the country. Troopers now can clearly speak to each other with the push of a button. Col. Tracey Trott demonstrated the system Wednesday with a statewide roll call. “There’s one button on there, if a trooper gets in an emergency situation, he can push that one individual button,” Lt. Brad Wilbanks said. “It sends out a distress tone. We know it’s him — it’s identifiable by his call sign — and he can take precedence over anybody else that has radio traffic.” The new system also will allow better communication to other state agencies such as TDOT, TEMA and the TWRA.
