JACKSON, Tenn.—With Halloween just days away, many parents are exploring trunks rather than houses for treats to keep their kids safe. Hundreds of trick-or-treaters hit the streets Saturday night in Downtown Jackson for the Downtown Halloween Bash. “There is a corp of downtown businesses that participate every year and we have a good showing from them the whether gave a few people the willies but i think it turned out that we had a great event,” Executive Director of the Jackson Downtown Development Center Matt Altobell said. Rebecca Sage has two children and her nephew she brought to the bash to enjoy the festivities. “This is our first time that we’ve come I didn’t I hadn’t been aware of it until this year and so we thought it would be fun to come out and spend some time with the family,” Many parents say they prefer trunk or treating activities like this one here in Downtown Jackson rather than normal trick or treeing in their neighborhoods. They say they feel safer in numbers. “I think it’s more fun too you get to see more people and talk to people and see the costumes more so than walking door to door at night,” Sage said. Other parents say for their families, events like the one downtown give them an opportunity to enjoy treats rather than worry about the tricks. “Right now where we live we don’t really live in a neighborhood we live on north Parkway so it’s a lot easier to come to something like this I feel a little bit safer than walking on a major road,” Adam Pulliam said. Brittany Haynes has three small children, and likes the earlier start time. “We like it last year because it was daytime and it was a lot easier to keep up with the kids it was blocked off so cars couldn’t get by and we just liked the safety of it,” she said. If you do plan to go trick or treating next weekend, officials say to never go alone, always go to houses that are decorated and lit up, and wear some sort of reflective clothing when walking on roads.
