Man sentenced, admits to killing ex-girlfriend’s mom, 2 dogs

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – A Memphis man has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to killing his former girlfriend’s mother and her two dogs.

The Commercial Appeal reports (http://bit.ly/1PREPLc) the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office says 29-year-old Brandon Banks pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and aggravated cruelty to animals on Monday.

Authorities say Banks broke into a home in 2013 where he shot and killed 41-year-old Rachel Harrington and the family’s two pit bulls.

Authorities say Banks’ former girlfriend was able to climb out of a bedroom window to seek help, but Banks caught up with her outside. Police say Banks then forced her to walk with him to an apartment complex, where he was eventually arrested.
