Former Knox County trustee released from jail early
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Officials say a former Knox County trustee has been released from jail after serving six months of a one-year sentence for stealing a half-million dollars in taxpayer money.
According to the Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1MtBCSj ), the Knox County Sheriff’s Office says Mike Lowe was released Saturday from the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility. Officials say he was credited with good behavior.
Lowe pleaded guilty March 12 to felony theft for stealing public funds as part of a scheme in which he made payments to a ghost employee while keeping another staffer on the county payroll for shoddy or nonexistent title work.
Lowe was sentenced to serve one year in jail and serve the remainder of his 10-year sentence on probation.
