Pair of Hornets join Division I programs

MEDINA, Tenn. — South Gibson saw two of their best softball players sign with Division I programs on Wednesday. Next fall, senior Kaitlyn Martin will head to the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Teammate Aly Walker won’t be too far from Martin. Walker is taking her talents to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. The pair of standouts described their signing day as overwhelming. “I never thought working this hard would get my college paid for,” Martin said. “I honestly have no words. My heart is racing. It’s a great feeling.” Walker, who has been playing softball since she was five, is amazed UTC would be interested in a small-town girl. “It’s what I wanted to do since I was really young,” Walker said. “Now, it’s a goal I’ve reached. It always feels good to reach a goal you’ve been working really hard for.”
