Parents of fallen Marine to create veteran retreat

HENRY COUNTY, Tenn. — Parents of a fallen Marine are working on a way to help Veterans adjust back to civilian life. Kirk and Gretchen Catherwood lost their son, Alec Catherwood in Afghanistan in 2010. Since the devastating loss, their life was re-purposed. “The Dark Horse Lodge was an idea from my wife to help veterans of the next generation to come together and have fellowship and comrade with each other in a location where they feel safe and have activity that they can preform to help veterans help themselves,” said Kirk Catherwood. The Dark Horse Lodge will be named after the marine unit that was killed in 2010 including, Alec Catherwood. It will offer five free days at the cabin located in Henry County. According to veteran James Lee, this is something he wishes could have happened a long time ago. “I think it’s a fantastic idea, and I’m gonna do everything I can to see it into fruition. It’s targeting a different group of veterans than most veteran organizations.” Kirk Catherwood is hoping to repay veterans for their loyal service to the United States. “They change the world, a lot of people might think that it was all for not. But Alec died for his country. He died for a reason.” The land for the cabin has already been bought. The Catherwoods are now looking to construct the cabins for the retreat.
