Beer Board hearing for Ultra Lounge delayed again

JACKSON, Tenn. — The owner of a Jackson lounge accused of selling alcohol after hours appeared Friday before the Jackson Beer Board. The board voted to reset the hearing for the Ultra Lounge a third time. “I haven’t even received the summons yet,” Ultra Lounge Owner Anthony Bond said. Bond said he did not receive proper notice about the hearing. “You can subpoena our phone records and see when you called me,” he said. Jackson City Attorney Lewis Cobb said the Beer Board tried to accommodate Bond‘s schedule but agreed with the decision to delay the hearing. “We want to make sure he’s got adequate notice and adequate time to respond,” Cobb said. Bond told the beer board he had a problem with the media being inside Friday‘s meeting. The city said the Ultra Lounge is accused of selling alcohol after hours twice, once in April 2014 and again in February 2015. In June 2014, Jackson police said a man was shot in the parking lot after leaving the lounge and later died. “What we’re trying to do is make sure people who have the privilege of selling alcohol exercise that privilege responsibly, carefully, and those that don’t will eventually lose the privilege,” Cobb said. The Beer Board can issue a fine or revoke or suspend a beer license. Bond told the board he will respond to the charges. “I just need adequate time,” he said. Bond is scheduled to go before the board again Dec. 1. The city said the Ultra Lounge also promised to contact Jackson police and arrange for security but never did.
